Closeness: don't buy into the hype, no electric will beat the blade in this regard but, suprisingly, this shaver comes close (pun intended) when used wet with lather. Best shaver I've ever used

Strengths: shaves almost as close as blade, cleaning cartridge doesn't use alhocol, looks expensive, made in Japan

Weakness: Cleaning cartridges are rather expensive (but you can use regular water)

This is a very, very good shaver... Forget expensive brauns and stuck-in-the-70s norelcos; this is the shaver to get. It performs well both dry and wet; I personally prefer to use it in the shower.

Almost perfect shaver.

Strengths: Closest shave, comfortable, lightweight, beautiful design, quiet operation, wet/dry capability.

Weakness: Not induction recharged.

I have an older wet/dry Panasonic which is truly induction recharged which I love, however it is louder and slower speed than the ES8228S. With this one I still tend to apply just a film of gel type shaving cream which serves as a lubricant plus I can warm up the shaving head with warm water either in the shower or at the lavatory.
